A random clothes observation

I’ll probably make more observations about fashion in China (though as my target audience is engineers I don’t see how it matters much), but there’s one observation I’d like to make that has baffled me.

With the exception of corporate shirts, I have not seen a single article of clothing with Chinese characters on it. After first noticing the phenomenon, I started paying more attention, actively seeking a shirt with Chinese writing. I have yet to find it. Even more baffling is that all of the shirts are in English. My first thought had been that misprinted or defect shirts were simply being sold in China to cut losses, but I’m not sure that’s the case. It might just be that Chinese having English shirts is as fashionable as Americans having Chinese character tattoos, but with fewer misprints and less permanence.
